Combining their distinctive styles (Waterfield's hard-hitting, bomb-like drumming, Thorpe's expressive avant-rock pyrotechnics, Joe Bell's athletic basslines, Adkins' intoxicating synths), Avalanche Party create a sound that blends and twists their individual influences into shapes that defy clear labeling.

Just signed to AMK, Kartel Music Group's alternative music label, Avalanche Party's second album, Der Traum Über Alles, is set for release in November 2024. If the LP were placed on the psychoanalyst's couch, its themes of bloodlust, subversion and incineration might suggest a large load of pent-up aggression about to detonate. The first half of the record in particular feels like a sonic exorcism: an occult primal scream of the 21st century, shifting from the frenzied new wave of “Nureyev Said it Best” and “Shake the Slack” to the heady war drums of “Serious Dance Music” and “Collateral Damage.” “Der Traum Über Alles” hammers and seduces: the elegant “Ecstasy” has a tenderness that gradually turns to instability, as if Bell were giving himself over to a lover at the end of days, while the closer “Noise Between Us” has all the fatalistic grandeur of Berlin-era Bowie as the band lures us toward the void: “Into the edge, my love/Falling overboard.”
